Fertility Wisdom - 4 Simple Tips to Improve Reproductive Health

October 15, 2014

As you're moving toward optimal fertility, it's important to remember to take care of yourself and to find balance in all aspects of your life.  Here are some key elements to consider:

Limit Toxins

Eat a diet rich in organic foods, free of pesticides, antibiotics, fertilizers and hormones. Equally important is avoiding environmental toxins including chemicals, smoke, heavy metals and fumes. Avoid putting your computer directly on your lap and carrying your cellphone in your pocket. There should be a separation between your electronics and yourself (turn them off at night!).  Drink enough water, and consider your water source.

Eliminate Stress as much as possible

Stress, from a TCM perspective, may impact the qi of the heart - which can lead to stagnation and imbalances in the follicular phase, effecting ovulation. Additionally, stress often disrupts the flow of liver qi, which influences the menstrual cycle, and can prevent the passage of egg, sperm or embryo. Regular exercise, massage, meditation, and acupuncture can reduce stress and support the body in managing it.

Get enough sleep

Sleep nourishes the Kidneys, one of the most important organs related to fertility (from a TCM perspective). Lack of sleep also effects the body's ability to deal with stress, and fight off illness. If you have trouble sleeping, remember Chinese medicine can help!

Avoid Stimulants

Coffee, Alcohol, Cigarette smoking and marijuana are common stimulants in our society that can effect fertility and should, therefore, be avoided. Heavy use of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs may also effect fertility.
